Job Options: Learning with Confidence, Growing with Purpose

For many people, finding work can feel like navigating an impossible maze, especially when life throws multiple challenges their way. That’s where Job Options steps in—a unique 8-week virtual employment program designed to guide individuals through barriers, helping them discover not just jobs, but direction, confidence, and new possibilities.

From the very beginning, Job Options creates a space where participants feel supported and seen. Workshops cover life and employment skills, while individualized coaching ensures each person’s unique needs and goals are addressed. Participants leave with more than knowledge—they gain short-term certifications, a weekly training allowance, and stipends for achieving their employment goals. But most importantly, they gain belief in themselves.

The journey often begins at community events or through partnerships with other organizations. Program staff meet potential participants with warmth and understanding, engaging in trauma-informed conversations to uncover goals, aspirations, and challenges. Eligibility is determined collaboratively, and even those who don’t fit the program’s criteria are guided toward other resources in the community. Outreach workers from neighboring programs also play a role, sending referrals for those who may benefit from Job Options’ support.

Once a participant joins, their journey is carefully mapped out using the Life Areas Assessment. This helps identify the wraparound supports they need, whether that means connecting with other services or strengthening their existing support networks. With consent and ongoing flexibility, participants can adjust their external supports at any time, ensuring they feel fully supported throughout the process.

Barriers to employment are often complex. Some participants may need to pause, rethink, or change their goals entirely. Staff are ready to coach through these moments, but the program also respects each individual’s pace—sometimes stepping away temporarily is part of the path forward. Success, the Job Options team knows, isn’t one-size-fits-all. For some, it’s securing a job. For others, it’s showing up to workshops, learning new skills, or rebuilding confidence. Every milestone is celebrated.

Take Gabriel, for example. When he joined Job Options, he was in the final stage of his recovery program. He wanted to move from customer service into a career supporting mental health and addiction recovery. Over eight weeks, Gabriel honed his resume, perfected his cover letter, practiced interview techniques, and learned how to confidently explain employment gaps. He earned two certifications, building both skills and self-assurance. By the end of the program, Gabriel had secured a position at a homeless shelter—stepping into a career that aligned with his passion and purpose.

Across the Fraser Valley Regional District, Job Options continues to connect individuals to meaningful opportunities, internal PCRS programs, and community partners like WorkBC and Archway Community Services. For every participant, the program is more than employment support—it’s a bridge to possibility, empowerment, and hope.
