Pathways to Education

We have an exciting opportunity to pass on! The Pathways to Education program is looking for volunteer tutors, who want to make a difference in the lives of local high school students in Vancouver and Surrey. Pathways to Education is a program supporting youth in low-income communities that helps students graduate from high school and successfully transition into post-secondary education, training, or employment. Pathways addresses systemic barriers to education by providing leadership, expertise and a community-based program proven to lower dropout rates.

Pathways also provides a range of supports including free tutoring, social/mentoring activities, one-to-one educational support, bus passes, grocery cards, scholarships, and positive relationships with adult role models. As a Pathways volunteer, you will provide tutoring to youth who face systemic barriers to their educational success. We are looking for individuals who are excited to support youth in their high school studies. Training is provided!

What our Volunteers Say

  • “Volunteering with Pathways across two consecutive school years at the same site has been and continues to be such a rewarding and meaningful experience. Working one-on-one with students shows how far they have come since the previous grade, and it has been truly remarkable to see the progress that individual students make. Some of my favorite moments are when the students make strides in their ability to study for what was a previously challenging subject, or when they share tidbits of their life, especially their post-graduation ambitions! If anyone is looking for a volunteer experience where you can create a lasting impact on youth, I would highly recommend joining the team at PCRS.”

  • “The accumulation of my time here at pathways can be summed up in a quote, “in teaching others one begins to realize that they too were being taught”. I have felt that in teaching students about certain subjects I have learned not only more about how the subject works in its fundamentals, but also how others learn, and how wonderful the sciences are.”

  • “Pathways has helped me find a fulfilling way to give back to the community. It is inspiring to work with the coordinators to create a positive atmosphere at every session. I always feel good when I have finished my volunteer shift.”
