Navigating the job market can be a daunting task, whether you’re a job seeker, a student preparing to enter the workforce, or someone looking to make a career change. Amina, pictured above (right) with WorkBC facilitator Laura (left), shares her experience of attending a recent workshop:

“I had the privilege of participating in this transformative event in January 2025, at Guildford WorkBC Centre in Surrey. Facilitated by the insightful and knowledgeable Laura, the workshop offered participants practical tools and strategies to enhance their job search efforts and build a strong foundation for their careers. Whether you’re just starting or looking to take your career to the next level, this workshop is an invaluable resource for anyone seeking to thrive in today’s competitive job market.

This empowering program brought together individuals from various backgrounds, each with their own unique story and journey. The workshop was an opportunity for attendees to gain valuable skills such as creating compelling resumes, mastering interview techniques, and developing effective networking strategies. For newcomers to Canada, it was also an invaluable experience to help them prepare for their new environment and take meaningful steps toward successfully integrating into Canadian society.

It was a rewarding experience to interact with participants, hear their personal stories, and listen to their inspiring reflections on the workshop. One participant, Nissi, shared, “I became more confident about my resume and felt motivated to never give up until I reach my goal.” Mohammed highlighted the importance of transferable skills, stating, “I am happy to realize that I can use my skills and experiences from my past work here in Canada. I learned exactly what my resume needs to land the job I want. Volunteering and understanding the hidden job market were fascinating techniques I discovered.”

I was genuinely impressed by Laura’s expertise and her ability to create a supportive environment where every participant felt empowered. Her lessons were practical, engaging, and insightful, leaving everyone with clear, actionable steps to advance their careers.

The Job Search Workshop is an outstanding program offered by WorkBC, designed not only to teach but to inspire. It bridges the gap between ambition and achievement, helping individuals make confident strides toward their professional aspirations. Whether you’re just starting your job search, changing careers, or aiming to fine-tune your resume, this workshop offers a valuable opportunity to learn from the best.” – Amina
