The Vancouver Youth Support Recovery Program (VYSRP) is a substance use supported recovery program for youth and young adults ages 16 through 24. The program is made up of two five-bed supported recovery homes (Sequoia House and Alder House) and supports youth and young adults to make positive changes in their lives. Together with staff, youth and young adults will work on a plan to address their recovery needs.

The focus of these beds is based on Youth Transitional and Youth Supportive Residential Services. These services are targeted at youth with complex and persistent substance use issues, with or without concurrent mental health issues.

Program Features

Along with individual counselling, group work, and activities, the VYSRP aims to foster and support family connections and existent support networks.

  • One-on-one clinical counselling and group counselling sessions
  • Recreational activities
  • Nurse practitioner/physician services
  • Family therapy
  • Support with education/work
  • Daily quiet time

Program Details

The homes provide a temporary (up to six months) post-detox, residential, substance-free setting for youth and young adults. The environment is safe and supportive for those individuals who are experiencing substance use problems who require short- to medium-term supports.

Transitional services are provided in a community setting and may include dedicated stabilization beds and/or transition beds. Transition supports are provided to individuals who may be transitioning into or out of a residential or withdrawal management bed. Transition supports are also provided to those who are awaiting housing and may not have an adequate plan for continued treatment or an adequate level of support and safe housing while awaiting the transition.
