The Caregivers Support Program provides support, understanding, and education to new and experienced caregivers, foster parents, and family members as they care for children and youth with multiple attachment and trauma issues.

Program Features

The Caregivers Support Program offers a few distinct services:

  • Provides in-home consultation, education, and validation through a one-to-one relationship with the caregiver support counsellor on a long-term, consistent basis. This support includes assisting foster parents by clarifying expectations set out by their MCFD contracts and by offering education about attachment and trauma and how it impacts children in care and their families. This program also assists foster parents to implement strategies to increase resilience and decrease unwanted behaviours, and help foster parents understanding of the stages of development from childhood to adolescence
  • Offers monthly support groups for new and experienced caregivers/foster parents, family members who are caring for their own family members, and for caregivers with children/youth with Reactive Attachment Disorder
  • Holds monthly education groups with guest speakers, videos, and presentations that are relevant to caring for children and youth with multiple issues and needs
