Available in Surrey

Surrey Youth Housing Services operates two programs, Housing Search and Semi-Independent Living Homes, to help youth in Surrey connect with resources and housing.

Program Features

Housing Search offers one-on-one support for youth ages 16 through 19 who want to find, secure, and maintain safe and affordable housing in Surrey. The Semi-Independent Living Homes program offers a supported home where youth live independently with support from a youth housing worker as they work on goals and transition to independence.

Housing Search

This program assists and advocates for youth in Surrey so they can find, secure, and maintain safe, affordable, and appropriate housing. We will work to improve relationships between youth and landlords by facilitating understanding, education, and life-skill development. Services are offered the same hours as the GYRC. There are no fees for this service.

We offer:

  • In-office and outreach services – at times that work for youth
  • Use of telephone, fax, and internet
  • Listings of affordable housing
  • Housing related advocacy, in-office and outreach services
  • Referrals to housing workshops
  • Landlord message forwarding
  • Roommate matching
  • Information on tenant legal rights
  • Resource information for homeless youth

Some things to consider when looking for a place to live:

  • What can you afford?
  • What kind of place do you want?
  • Where do you want to live?
  • Do you want a roommate?
  • Are you respectful of other people’s property?

Semi-Independent Living Homes

This program is for youth wanting housing and support while they transition to adulthood. In this program, you work on your goals while living in a home and receiving life skills support. Homes feature shared kitchen, living room, and laundry spaces but each youth enjoys their own private bedroom. All youth in this program are required to pay rent.

If you are between the ages of 16 and 19 and willing to set and work towards your goals, this program might be right for you. We will work hard to help you develop the skills you need to maintain market housing as you transition to independence.
