PCRS has an annual operating budget of approximately 24 million; employs nearly 350 staff; and engages over 200 volunteers.

Position Summary:

Pacific Community Resources Society has been contracted to deliver comprehensive employment services for Youth under the Employment Program of BC. Using a strength-based approach, we are seeking an adaptable, independent, client- centred, results-oriented individual who is passionate about empowering Youth to reach their personal and employment goals. Applicants must be familiar with the Employment Program of BC (WorkBC). This position is part of a full range Employment Service Centre and while the primary duties described outline the core work, adaptability to meeting other service needs as they emerge will be required. 

Primary Duties:

  • Provide case management and employment counselling services to assigned case load according to EPBC policy and ESC practices
  • Administer needs assessment to determine employment readiness
  • Meet youth in the community in an outreach capacity at various locations
  • Develop mutually agreed-upon action plan assisting clients in moving towards Labour market attachment
  • Document actions and progress using the Integrated Case Management system
  • Facilitate one to one workshops on life, pre-employment and employment skills depending on client needs
  • Support Youth to connect with needed services utilizing knowledge of community and EPBC services

Academic and Job Experience Required:

Experience working with Youth. BA in a related field plus 2 years of Employment/Career Counselling experience OR a Diploma in Child and Youth Care Counselling plus 3 years’ experience working in an employment setting, OR a combination of education and work experience as noted above.

 Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal records check including the vulnerable sector
  • Working knowledge of the BCEA Act and regulations, MHSD Policies
  • Understanding of Youth work, poverty issues, mental health conditions, chronic homelessness and alcohol and drug addiction and demonstrated familiarity with local community and employment resources
  • Collaborate effectively in a multi-faceted and multi-agency team to deliver a comprehensive employment program designed to meet individual needs of clients
  • Maintain client confidentiality; de-escalate and maintain composure in high stress situations
  • Possess a solid understanding of and confidence with using computer programs, including Microsoft Suite and assigned data bases
  • Adhere to EPBC policy in all decisions and plans with clients; keep up to date with all services available for clients and all changes or updates

Desired Requirements:

  • Career Development Practitioner Certificate
  • Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Practitioners
  • Life Skills or Coaching Certificate and/or experience
  • Solid understanding of Employment initiatives in the Lower Mainland
  • Experience with, or working knowledge of, performance based contracts

Salary Range:     $22.74/hour – $25.88/hour plus a Competitive benefits
